Plot summary[]

The telephone comes to Walnut Grove and is causing a buzz among everyone. However, Mrs. Oleson is working at the switchboard and takes every opportunity to spread gossip around the town, by listening in to people's private conversations.

The Garvey's get a telephone to speak to Alice's mother and Mrs Oleson causes disaster for the Garveys when she listens in on the conversation and tells everyone about it. Jonathan and Alice's marriage is at the breaking point. Laura and Albert decide to teach Mrs Oleson a lesson.
