Laura's childhood friend Jane Canfield who is blind, falls in love with Mr. Edwards ... and the age difference doesn't seem to matter. Later, the young woman has surgery to restore her sight, and her feelings don't change at all when she sees that Mr. Edwards is gruff-looking. Eventually, he encourages her to pursue her dreams.
