While spending the night at the Blind School, Laura and Mary are held hostage by a trio of escaped felons. When one of them becomes ill from a gunshot wound, the leader sends Laura to get a doctor, warning her that the consequences will be deadly if she says anything about the hostage situation. When she can't find Dr. Baker, the terrified Laura goes to her Pa and tells him about what's going on. Charles poses as Dr. Baker, but soon finds himself in a dangerous predicament when the real Dr. Baker shows up. But Charles manages to get the upper hand.
