Bartholomew Slater, Jr. or Bart was a bully boy at the Walnut Grove School during Miss Eliza Jane's time as teacher.
He was featured in the episode "The Werewolf of Walnut Grove."
History[]
Bart was the son of a wealthy farmer named Bartholomew Slater, Sr. and his wife Mrs. Slater. Bart loved farming and hated school and was kicked out of all previous schools he attended, but his father at behest of his wife wanted him to finish school. When he arrived at Walnut Grove School, his hatred of being there was taken out on the rest of the students through abuse, disruption of the class, and the humiliation of a younger boy of whom he tried to bribe to get him through school.
His bullying ways upset Eliza Jane very much and almost caused her to resign as teacher. A report to the school board is made expressing concerns about Bart's behavior, but Mr. Slater not only refuses to believe the report but he sides with Bart. When the board votes on Bart's future at the school, the final vote is 2-2, with Mrs. Oleson and a newcomer – her daughter, Nellie – dissenting, allowing Bart to remain in school. He accelerates his bullying as a result.
Bart's bullying ways caught the attention of Laura and Albert (one of his victims) who both concocted a plan to scare him into stopping his bullying by getting him to believe Albert turns into Werewolf at full moon, and would kill him due to his mistreatment of Eliza Jane. Bart is convinced and scared stiff, but when Albert's younger sister, Carrie, accidentally exposes the plan, Bart immediately beat Albert up.
Finally, the other students have enough of Bart, and they gang up on him and beat him up in front of the school while his father watched. Afterwards, Bart, now properly humbled apologized to Eliza Jane for his behavior and asked that she continue teaching the class.
After his comeuppance, Bart never again caused problems at the school.
